Help Save Iconic Wildlife at Moholoholo

The project

South Africa's Greater Kruger is home to some of the world's most iconic and threatened wildlife. With so many animals moving through such a vast landscape, some inevitably end up injured or in need of help. For over 30 years, this rehabilitation centre has provided specialist care and sanctuary to injured, poisoned, and orphaned wildlife in the surrounding area. Many arrive as a direct result of poaching, snaring, or conflict with humans, and without intervention, few would survive. As a volunteer, you'll give every rescued animal the best chance of survival, supporting a team that's become a genuine lifeline for the region's wildlife.

What to expect?

This centre cares for almost any species, so you’ll get hands-on with a variety of Africa’s most iconic animals, including:

• Large carnivores like cheetah, wild dog and lion
• Herbivores such as hippos, zebra, impala and giraffe
• Birds like vultures, owls and eagles

As you’re living on site, you’ll wake up to the sounds of roaring lions, howling hyenas and whistling raptors, providing you with an immersive experience of the African bush.

Your role is crucial to the successful rehabilitation of the animals at the centre. With guidance from the experienced rehabilitation team, you’ll help with:

• Feeding, including food prep and distribution
• Cleaning to ensure enclosures are sanitary
• Organising mental and physical enrichment activities to prepare animals for eventual release
• Assisting in the high-quality, long-term care of animals where release is not possible

Along the way, you'll learn about each species' needs and behaviour, and may even get the chance to visit the on-site veterinary clinic.

Who can be a wildlife volunteer?

This project is open to anyone with a passion for animal care and rehabilitation. No prior experience is needed, and we welcome volunteers of all ages and walks of life. Whether you are just starting a career in conservation or revisiting a longstanding love for wildlife, you are welcome to join us.
