Ecovolunteering in Kenya

Come participate in activities in Subukia to contribute to the protection of the environment, farm animals, and wildlife, while also helping underprivileged children.

The main missions of eco-volunteers on the farm are varied:

Making harnesses for donkeys and raising awareness among the community about the risks of injuries and infections related to improper harnessing.
Assisting underprivileged children and promoting environmental protection in schools as well as on the farm.
Collecting waste in the village of Subukia and its surroundings.
Observing the behavior and surveying Guereza colobus and Diademed monkeys.
Surveying and identifying birds, and if possible, river otters, duikers, leopard tortoises, and tree hyraxes.
Inspecting farm animals (cows, sheep, horses, donkeys, dogs, geese, ducks), assisting with care, food distribution, and health checks.
Surveying and identifying trees, plants, and flowers with medicinal properties.
Maintenance and gardening tasks (upkeeping fences, thatched roofs, vegetable gardens, animal enclosures…).
Visiting the village of Subukia, hiking, and trekking in the valley with stops at local homes to discover the lifestyle of Kenyans in a rural area.
Activities with horses: grooming, leading walks, and a zooanthropological approach (studying the pure relationship with the animal).
Walking with donkeys.
Introduction to Swahili, conservation education, courses on animal behavior, various Kenyan ethnicities, and local cuisine.
Excursions to Nyahururu (Thompson Falls, hippos, St. Martin's Mission), Mary’s Village (Catholic mission and basilica), Igana viewpoint, and the Berea tea and coffee farm.
