SEA TURTLE PROTECTION IN THAILAND
This observation project allows volunteers to participate in the conservation of the marine ecosystem in the Phang Nga region of Thailand.
The missions vary depending on the seasons. During the dry season, the program focuses on coastal environmental protection and the marine ecosystem. In the rainy season, it concentrates more on the terrestrial environment.
VOLUNTEERS' SCHEDULE
As part of this project, you will be involved in various areas of land preservation, community development, and environmental awareness. The activities are diverse, with an emphasis on long-term environmental protection. Research on turtles will take place about two days a week.
TYPICAL ACTIVITIES IN THE PROJECT INCLUDE:
Optimizing and setting up enclosures for turtles
Collecting morphological data on turtles
Assisting the Coastal Fisheries Research and Development Center of Phang Nga (CFRDC) and setting up turtle breeding at the Phang Nga naval base
Cleaning enclosures with brushes and turtles with sponges
Treating turtles with antibacterial and antifungal medications
Depending on the season, you may contribute to releasing hundreds of young turtles into the ocean
Beach cleaning
Bird studies
Coral studies
Butterfly research
Mangrove planting
From November to March, you may be involved in:
Research on the coastal environment
Study of the marine environment (diving)
Management of tourism activities
Education for local communities
During the rainy season (May to October), the focus will be on studying biodiversity in the national parks of the island.
