TURTLE CONSERVATION IN THAILAND
This observation project allows volunteers to participate in the conservation of the marine ecosystem in the Phang Nga region of Thailand.
The tasks vary depending on the season. During the dry season, the program focuses on the protection of the coastal environment and the marine ecosystem. During the rainy season, it shifts focus more towards the terrestrial environment.
VOLUNTEER SCHEDULE
As part of this project, you will be involved in various areas of territorial preservation, community development, and environmental awareness. The activities are diverse, and the main focus is on long-term environmental protection. Turtle research work will take place about 2 days a week.
TYPICAL ACTIVITIES IN THE PROJECT INCLUDE:
• Optimizing and setting up enclosures for the turtles
• Collecting morphological data on the turtles
• Assisting the Phang Nga Coastal Fisheries Research and Development Center (CFRDC) and the installation of turtle breeding at the Phang Nga Navy base
• Cleaning enclosures with brushes and turtles with sponges
• Treating turtles with antibacterial and antifungal medical treatments
• Depending on the season, you may help release hundreds of young turtles into the ocean
• Cleaning beaches
• Bird studies
• Coral studies
• Butterfly research
• Mangrove planting
From November to March, you may be involved in:

◦ Marine environment study (diving)
◦ Managing tourism activities
◦ Educating local communities
During the rainy season (May to October), the focus will be on studying biodiversity in the island's national parks.
