Environmental Protection in Seychelles

ENVIRONMENTAL VOLUNTEER PROJECT – LAND & COASTLINE
Join a team of international volunteers and work on environmental protection projects. You will discover a rich biodiversity of flora and fauna. You will specifically work on the protection of sea turtles, a species that is severely threatened and nests on the island. You will monitor the births of green turtles and Hawksbill turtles, collecting a wealth of useful data (number of individuals, shell size, number of eggs, etc.). You will also assist us with our research project on lemon sharks, monitoring their population and its evolution. This species is still poorly studied. Additionally, you will be responsible for collecting data on erosion phenomena, the reproduction of coco de mer, salinity levels, and temperature in mangroves, as well as bird observations.

LEMON SHARKS
On Curieuse Island, the mangrove is a key breeding ground for sicklefin lemon sharks (Negaprion acutidens). Our NGO in Seychelles captures and then releases sharks to attach essential tags for studying their activities. Currently, this species is poorly understood, and we hope to achieve a better understanding of lemon sharks.

BIRDS
Our NGO is currently conducting research on birds on Curieuse Island. We regularly conduct surveys and collect a wealth of information.

MANGROVES
Curieuse Island features the largest mangrove in Seychelles. Our NGO conducts studies on hydrology, salinity, and the impact of tides.

HAWKSBILL TURTLES
Curieuse Island is home to some of the most important nesting sites for Hawksbill turtles. During the nesting and hatching season, we patrol the beaches, collect data on the turtles, and tag the females.

Marine Conservation Program
In collaboration with the Seychelles National Park services, you may also participate in educational campaigns or various discovery activities.
