Projekt und Rolle der Freiwilligen

INTRODUCING THE ECOVOLUNTEERING PROJECT IN NEW ZEALAND

Our nature reserve is located in a unique forest environment overlooking the ocean. It is not a tourist attraction, but a natural sanctuary located 250 km from a major city, 50 km from supermarkets, and 2 km from the nearest houses.

We work very closely with the Ministry of the Environment, and our volunteers have the opportunity to work hand-in-hand with park rangers and learn the latest conservation techniques.

ECOVOLUNTEER MISSIONS

Ecovolunteers work together to maintain the living areas in good condition and participate in other domestic chores around the sanctuary. This includes gardening, vegetable garden maintenance, painting, and shelter construction.

Work hours vary depending on the tasks to be performed at the sanctuary at the time of the program, as well as weather conditions. Assignments include a variety of conservation work such as identifying, marking, and mapping forest trails; studying plants and species such as New Zealand kiwis and other endangered species; maintaining the grounds; and participating in various maintenance projects.

The eco-volunteers will complete a number of exercises that will allow them to learn the basics of forest navigation and, over the course of their stay, they will develop the skills needed to gain the confidence needed to venture out into nature.
