Whale Shark Conservation

Our whale shark conservation program is a unique underwater research experience. Our team of qualified scientists and our state-of-the-art research center give this environmental project privileged access to the region's wildlife and ecosystem.
As a whale shark conservation project volunteer, you will organize marine research activities under the supervision of our scientists.
You will join other volunteers to collect data during scuba dives and ocean excursions around the Tofo coastline in Mozambique.
Expect an exceptional diving adventure while gaining real-world experience in marine research, contributing to a high-impact environmental conservation project.

VOLUNTEER AND INTERN MISSIONS IN MOZAMBIQUE

• Whale shark census
• Behavior observation, underwater photography
• Data collection: date, location, sex, distinctive features
• Observation of coral reef conditions
• Photography to identify manta rays and other endangered species
• Humpback whale and sea turtle observation
• Environmental preservation and beach cleanup

HIGHLIGHTS OF YOUR MARINE RESEARCH EXPERIENCE

• Diving with whale sharks, the largest marine species in the world
• Learning about numerous species and contributing to their protection
• Learning to dive and discovering the magic of the underwater world
• Observing the migration of humpback whales
• Getting involved in marine research and learning research and analysis techniques

Some research activities take place year-round, while others take place at specific times:
Observations of whale sharks, dolphins, coral reefs, and seahorses: year-round
Turtles: November to March
Humpback whales: June to October
