MARINE ENVIRONMENTAL PROTECTION IN FIJI

Fiji is an archipelago of 300 tropical and paradisiacal islands located in the heart of the Pacific Ocean. White sandy beaches, rows of palm trees, and unforgettable scuba diving experiences.

With over 4000 m² of coral reefs and 1500 marine species, marine environmental protection projects have become essential to preserve the balance weakened by tourism and commercial activities. This is why our partner organization is affiliated with local community research. Among other things, it transmits information to the Research Institute for Development in Fiji.

All of their initiatives and volunteer projects are led by experts in collaboration with the local population and the government. Fiji is a leader in ecotourism. Their goal is to make their marine and terrestrial environment an example of a sustainable ecosystem.
During a volunteer experience in Fiji, you will have the chance to contribute to sustainable development while exploring the islands, beaches, and hidden bays for an unforgettable diving experience.

VOLUNTEER TASKS IN ENVIRONMENTAL PROJECTS
Warning: this mission involves a significant number of underwater dives, so volunteers must either undergo PADI training on-site or be certified to participate in the mission.

THE FOLLOWING RESEARCH PRIORITIES ARE:
- Collecting data on fish specimens.
- Mapping coral and mangrove habitats.
- Developing environmental education in local schools.
- Developing better practices for marine and terrestrial environmental protection on Caqalai Island.

ACTIVITY SCHEDULE:
Depending on the diving capabilities of the volunteers, they will be tasked with identifying invertebrates, fish, or corals.
Once trained, volunteers will learn some survival techniques to become a member of the data collection team based at “Moturiki waters.”

Depending on weather conditions, our goal is to have volunteers dive once or twice a day (5 days a week). Outside of diving, there will be other activities, including: training sessions, marine debris collection, environmental education.
