The Maasai tribe, a proud people, who do their best to preserve their unique culture. It is probably one of the most iconic tribes of East Africa. Of Nilotic ethnic origin, they live in the northern regions of Tanzania and the southern part of Kenya. The Maasai are known for their nomadic lifestyle (although, since the 1990s, the Tanzanian government has adopted a law requiring them to settle), their colorful dress code, their beadwork jewelry, and their impressive traditions.

Volunteer immersion mission with the Maasai tribe, during this immersion, you will be welcomed into their village to discover their daily life and participate in their activities. The tasks are divided: the men usually take care of the cattle and/or sell them, while the women participate in milking the animals, cooking, collecting wood for heating, taking care of the babies, and even building houses in the boma (typical Maasai family).

You will be able to explore Maasai culture further through interactions, exchanging ideas and experiences: learning to work with beads with the women of the village, making Maasai sandals with the men, teaching English to the children of the village, and organizing sports activities.

Volunteer mission for women's empowerment. The Maasai tribe has its own way of life, which differs from other societies in Tanzania. The majority of women live a life of poverty and cultural oppression. The men are the heads of the family and the village, and they have control over almost every aspect.

The main source of income for women is the sale of traditional bead jewelry. However, due to their vulnerability and lack of education, they lack the means to protect their economic interests. The goal of this project is to give them the tools to break free from the authority of the communities and make financial decisions through mutually beneficial information exchange.

Most Maasai women spend their time milking, caring for animals, and doing domestic work. This type of work is currently the priority for women as it requires neither education nor community involvement. Reversing this trend would allow women to take action for sustainable development in the future.
